The other day I looked around my house and knew that something had to be done. My wife was working and I had been home with my two daughters, spending the day playing. I received a text from my wife, saying that she was on the way home, which snapped me back into adulthood and caused me to noticed the incredible mess we created.
“Quick,” I said, “lets start cleaning up! Mom is on her way!” I wasn’t surprised when neither of my daughters was overjoyed with the thought of cleaning. However, I was surprised with which the clarity they remembered which messes did they not create. “I’m not picking that up,” one daughter explained. “I did not make that mess!“
Any parent who has been placed in this situation knows what to say next. “I did not create any of this mess, but I am cleaning too! We are a family. We make messes together and we clean together.”
We live in an individualistic society, and for many of us, faith is a deeply personal part of our lives. However, all through scripture we see God choosing to bless and work through the family unit.
On Sunday we are continuing our series, What Every Family Needs, by looking at the importance of a family mission. This week at Crossroads Church, we will look at how we, as families, can step into a mission together to change our world.
